Phil Allen

Phillip Allen, professor of Earth Science at Frostburg State University, serves as the President of the WMCC. Phil got involved in climbing through activities and friends offered by his school, and has be an outdoor enthusiast ever since.

In his role, he aims to collaborate with the WMCC and community to nurture the growth and evolution of organization. His goal to see Western Maryland climbing being accessible to everyone and promote all aspects of climbing. In the future, Phil’s goal is to collaborate with state agencies to design, develop, and implement a comprehensive climbing and conversation management plan for Will’s Mountain (Cumberland Narrows) and Rocky Gap State Park. Along with this, he is working to create a welcoming environment to the community by creating open communication, mentorship programs, expanding community outreach, and conducting educational initiatives.

While Phil serves as Professor, he also is working hard to improve climbing, trails, and access to Will’s Mountain and Rocky Gap State Park.

A fun fact about Phil is that he has played ruby in Antartica. When not climbing, his enjoyments of life are family, friends, fun, and laughter.
